This was me on Mother’s Day, connecting with the creative energy of the Great Mother archetype, who is constantly birthing new life in the form of baby humans, baby birds, ideas, artforms, and opportunities. Many of our plants have outgrown their small pots, so I bought new ones and took time to replant.
Mom always had a beautiful flowering plant on her circular table in her house on the lake, and I’ve since assumed that tradition. So before I repotted this kitchen plant I wrote my intentions on a little piece of paper, that the growth and blossoming of this plant be an expression of the loving, supportive relationships that we nurture within our home, which yes, includes you Sita girl. I then placed it in the pot and filled it in with soil.
Family life can be chaotic, complicated and wrought with conflict. One of the ways we maintain togetherness is by setting clear intentions on how we want to feel and the quality of engagement we want to have within this unit. This little ritual was my way of affirming my intentions as a mother of this beautiful family.
I invite you to fertilize your own dreams and intentions through this simple activity of repotting an old plant or buying a new one. You can do this solo or invite each family member to write down their own intentions and place them in the pot. In the future, every time they water the plant, or even look at it, they’ll be reminded of the intention that they planted in the fertile soil of their sweet little house plant.
