“There is a crack, a crack in everything…that’s how the light gets in.”-Leonard Cohen
This quote was sent to us by one of our teachers in training who is in the midst of a family crisis. I was deeply moved by her sharing last weekend, as she described dragging herself out of bed with a heavy heart to attend the program. Half way out the door she remembered her manual, and also remembered the blessing and opportunity that lay ahead of her.
She said “Even in this very dark time, I picked up my book and felt instantly blessed to be going to Yoga School. There is beauty all around us, always, even in desperate times.”
She chose to slog her way through the darkness by being fully present to her situation, and with eyes wide open to also see the beauty of life.
I believe that we are faced with a younger population who suffers from unprecedented levels of anxiety because they are exposed to so much darkness in our media, from all over the planet. News is way more accessible now than it used to be and it’s way more explicit. When I view tragedy in the news, (which I could view 24/7 if I wanted to), I wonder what kind of blessings are also occurring that we choose not to report. In the midst of every disaster and crisis, there is a miracle, a blessing, or a crack of light.
The Natives of Patagonia only saw Darwin’s little row boats approaching their shores, because their frame of reference had only experienced small boats before. Their limited view of reality prevented them from seeing the huge mother ship, the Beagle. Perhaps our Mother ship, the crack of light is waiting to be seen but we are so entrenched in our suffering that it’s beyond our sight.
Thank you my dear friend for reminding us that even in the midst of our darkest moments, there is support, warmth, love and blessings to receive, we just need to adjust our perspective.
May your week be filled with light, as we spring forward…
Jenny
