This week Blair and I did a corporate wellness workshop on managing stress through mindfulness practices.
One of my messages was the reminder to let laughter flow by incorporating light-hearted play into our day.
I know I can take life too seriously, leading me to forget that lightness is an option.
But so much of what’s happening in my life and around the world is beyond my control.
If I watch too much, I worry too much, and that can quickly cause a downward spiral in my mental health and creativity.
We all know that play is essential for children’s growth and development, self-confidence and wellbeing.
But do we know that play is crucial for us adults too?
Seemingly pointless fun activities happen to improve brain function and our mood, lower stress and even enhance our relationships.
In our session, I thanked Blair for reminding me of how good it feels to be silly and have fun, especially when I’m in the muck of life. We work a lot in our family, but we also play a lot too, adults and children alike.
I hope this weekend we can all lay down our personal and global burdens and let some lightness in.
